Terry Black’s BBQ
In a previous post, I mentioned that there were two things I had to try when I was in Dallas. Tex-Mex and BBQ. I’m a big fan of Tex-Mex cuisine, but it doesn’t come close to traditional American BBQ if I’m being honest. Some of my fondest memories as a kid are smoking meats with my dad. I vividly remember hating mustard at the time and giving him some pushback when he told me we were using it as a binder for the seasoning. Of course, the answer was always “you won’t taste it when it’s finished”. He was right. Looking back on it, I really did enjoy doing helping him out and may partially explain why i’m such a foodie now. As I was searching where to get BBQ in Dallas, Terry Black’s just kept coming up as the best. I needed to find out if this was true.
First of all, you walk into what is basically a warehouse setting. This giant room is filled with tables from end to end. They all come stocked with multiple bbq sauces in giant squirt bottles to use. You simply walk up to the counter, let them know what you want, how much of it, and pay right there. That might be one of my favorite parts about the entire experience. I went at lunch time on a Friday, and was sitting down with my food within 5 minutes of entering.
I can confidently say that this was one of my favorite meals I’ve ever had. One of the meals where I did not want to stop eating. I spent a decent amount of money, but honestly was not thinking about that at all. That wasn’t the reason I didn’t get back in line for a second round. I literally could not fit one more bite in my mouth, otherwise I would have. Everything here was seasoned to absolute perfection. The pork ribs fell of the bone with ease. The brisket could hold its own weight but would tear apart with the slightest tension. The in-house sausage had a perfect smoky flavor. Even all the sides that I ordered were delicious. I wish I could have tried every piece of meat, but I simply did not have enough space in my stomach. Another nice touch: the utensil/drink station had tons of thick sliced white bread sitting in containers to take.
Terry Black’s has multiple locations throughout Texas, so it’s not even something you need to try if you visit Dallas. If you step foot in Texas, at any point in time, you need to make your way to one of these locations. There’s something special about trying the best of the best in the place its known for. This is one of those opportunities. I promise you will not be disappointed.
