Las Palmas Tex Mex
When I travel, I feel obligated to try foods that that area is known for. I personally feel like this is one of the best ways to understand the culture of the area i’m in. I like to see how the service compares to what i’m used to in Chicago. I like to see if the food is really that much better in it’s place of origin (it should be for the most part). When I’m doing research on places to eat in new areas, I think about the cuisine in that area. Then, I go on TikTok and search “best ______ in ______.” There are two things that come to mind when I think of Texas. BBQ and Tex-Mex. In this case, “best Tex Mex in Dallas” kept leading me back to one spot, Las Palmas. We had to try it out.
Of course, I have to start by mentioning the ambiance. The inside was dark but classy, and the outdoor seating was a bit more casual. The outdoor seating had beautiful plant life all over and plenty of seats. Coming from Chicago, I try to sit outside as much as possible. Happy Hour here is great. They have a specific happy hour cocktail menu, and also a few food options as well. I haven’t had too many tamales in my life so its hard to judge, but they were good. If I was ordering again, i’d probably try something else.
Side note: complimentary chips and salsa is one of the most dangerous things in the restaurant industry. I will sit there and keep shoveling chips into my mouth until I’m least 80% full. Every single time.
Fajitas are easily my most ordered item when it comes to Mexican Food. Its one of the coolest things you can order at any restaurant. Everyone stares at the hot plate as its walking by them, wishing they ordered fajitas. You also get to completely customize how you make each one, which I love. You simply get a ton of meat, a plate of sides, and a bunch of tortillas. With that being said, I can honestly say these were some of the best fajitas i’ve ever had. I ordered the Akauashi Wagyu tacos, which came out perfectly cooked. They then proceeded to pour over bone marrow butter which elevated the smoke and the flavor at least 10x. The toppings that came with the sizzle plate were all amazing and super fresh. Last but DEFINITELY not least, the tortillas were definitely made in house. Homemade tortillas are absolutely incredible and truly makes each bite that much better.
I now understand why Las Palmas has firm control over Dallas Tex-Mex Tiktok. Everything about this place lived up to the hype. I rarely find myself going back to the same place twice simply because I love trying new places/food, but if I’m back in Dallas, I will definitely be coming back here. Las Palmas was easily one of the highlights for the trip, and I recommend it to anyone in Dallas. If you live there and you haven’t been yet, what are you doing?
