Gordo’s Tiny Taco Bar
I don’t think I know a single person who doesn’t enjoy tacos. They’re comforting, relatively cheap, and extremely versatile. The combinations truly are endless. Although Chicago does have plenty of amazing Mexican restaurants, I wouldn’t go as far as to say that this city is known for its Mexican food. Fortunately, we found a reliable spot hidden in the Lakeshore East neighborhood of downtown Chicago. Gordo’s Tiny Taco Bar is exactly where you need to be if you’re craving street tacos.
If you’re going to come here, know that it fills up quick. We went around 5:30 on a Friday night. Luckily we got in right away, but a big line was not too far behind us. It should be noted that this was before their outdoor seating was open, which has tons of extra tables. This is an awesome space. You know the meal is going to be solid when they bring out complimentary chips and salsa. We also had to order guac, because you simply can’t have tacos without chips and guac. It was good, I just wish the portion size was bigger.
Moving on to the star of the show, the tacos. I’m always happy when tacos come on a double corn tortilla. It just feels right. It helps absorb some of the moisture, and lets be honest, who doesn’t love another tortilla. I decided to choose three different kinds. I went with Asada, Pastor, and Shrimp. These are usually my go to when it comes to ordering tacos, and these were right on par. I loved all three, but if I had to choose one it would be Asada.
To top it all off, we got one of the greatest desserts ever created, churros. Fried dough coated in cinnamon sugar, and these happened to be stuffed with chocolate AND came with a chocolate dipping sauce. I’m not a huge dessert guy, but I’ll always have room for churros. These were amazing. I would highly recommend coming to Gordo’s Tiny Taco Bar if you want traditional Mexican food in Chicago. This really is comfort food at its finest.
